How has your Waste provider looked after your business during lockdown?

David Brighton

Following weeks of enforced lockdown the government have given definitive guidelines for for reopening non-essential retail sites nationally from the 15th June 2020. We have seen a large increase in collection requests from all of our clients and look forward to supporting them through an uncertain period.

Many of our clients have taken advantage of our on demand services, such as skips and adhoc collections as well as utilising our flexible approach in offering a lower frequency service.

Throughout lockdown we have supported our clients by suspending waste collections with no cost or rental charges. Having spoken to numerous new prospects over the last 3 months not all waste companies have acted in their customers interests and therefore we strongly recommend businesses review their invoicing and consider the following:

• Has your supplier or broker charged rental costs on your containers whilst your business has been closed?
• Have the 1st April price increases been added to your recent invoices and explained?
• Do you require the same number of containers post lockdown?
• With legislation changes and cost benefits, is now the time for a review of your operation? Could your business increase recycling rates and separate food waste?
• Commodities such as cardboard, paper and plastics are favourable and therefore rebate rates are increasing, if your collections are free of charge, why?
• Do you feel your waste provider has supported you and stayed in touch?

As we have previously stated we took the decision to freeze our charges until 2021 so that our customers didn’t see costs increasing during this difficult and uncertain period. We’ve also stayed in touch so that we can slowly phase in collections as and when required.

We look forward to supporting our customers through the next few months as we all return to a ‘new normal’. We are very proud of all the positive feedback received and look forward to welcoming new clients as a result of our work.
